Indigenous Child and Family Agreement in Principle Information Session

On January 5, 2022 The Assembly of First Nations and Government of Canada announced preliminary details of the largest class action settlement in Canadian history. The Agreement in Principle includes compensation for young First Nations people harmed by Canada’s discriminatory child welfare system and future investments in First Nations communities to reform this system.

On January 6, 2022 Dr. Cindy Blackstock, Executive Director of the First Nations Child and Family Caring Society of Canada, Mary Teegee, Chair of the Indigenous Child and Family Services Directors Forum and Dr. Helaina Gaspard from the Institute for Fiscal Studies hosted an informative webinar and Q and A session with BC Chiefs and Child and Family Service workers. This webinar describes the Canadian Human Rights tribunal background, what this agreement means for First Nations and next steps in the finalizing the agreement.
